Americans consume almost 17 billion quarts of popcorn per year! That’s about 53 quarts of popcorn per year for every American man, woman and child! And 30% of that is consumed at, you probably guessed right, the movie theatre!
Our family has been eagerly awaiting the release of Inside Out, the Pixar/Disney movie which comes out this Friday.
We are excited to hit the theatre this weekend, though certainly not because of the popcorn, because the kids are allergic to corn and mom and dad don’t usually eat corn because corn is what they feed pigs to fatten them up. No thank you popcorn. Instead, I’ll share what delicious and healthy treat we’ll be eating to celebrate the new brain movie.
Why are we so excited for “Inside Out”?
The plot of this movie takes place inside the brain of 11-year old Riley. The main 5 characters in the animated movie are embodiments of your 5 major emotions – joy, anger, fear, disgust, and sadness.
This story line hits home for us. Both Elaine and I are Amen Method Professionals, trained and certified by the Brain Doctor himself, Dr. Daniel Amen. I myself experienced a major brain scare which scared me straight into getting health and start taking care of my brain!
And Elaine, as a Transformational Nutrition Coach, focuses her clients a lot on mindfulness and mindset for weight-loss success, stress reduction and detox, goal setting and just being a calm mom vs a frazzled mom.
And, our kids have been “brain-washed” to question whether what they do is either, “good” for their brain or “bad” for the brain – (this is actually a game that Dr. Amen played with his children and now plays with is grandchildren). And by brain-washed, I mean it in the healthiest of ways and will have explain later how Dr. Amen actually taught me that everyone’s brain does this “brain-washing” every night!
This brain movie, “Inside Out”, is going to be FUN and yet HEALTHY without your family even knowing it!
And the delicious treat…
During one of the trailers we saw for this movie, there was a scene in which Riley is drinking a very cold drink way too fast. What happens then is, you guessed it…Brain Freeze!
So, we got thinking…what can we make and eat in preparation for this movie. This scene was pretty funny to us and stuck in our memory.
So, here it is, our never-before-seen, world-exclusive release of our brand new recipe…
Brain-Freezer Blueberry Smoothie!
What is blue, sweet and juicy that may help ward off those nagging memory lapses? If you guessed blueberries, you would be right.
Emerging research suggests that compounds in blueberries known as flavonoids may improve memory, learning and general cognitive function, including reasoning skills, decision making, verbal comprehension and numerical ability.
In addition, studies comparing dietary habits with cognitive function in adults hint that consuming flavonoids may help slow the decline in mental facility that is often seen with aging and might even provide protection against disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
You CAN create a brain healthy life beginning with your next meal or snack. As Dr. Amen says, “You are not stuck with the brain you have“. Start right NOW with this NEW and easy BRAIN BOOSTING recipe that works for breakfast, or as a fun snack.
This is super easy to make, contains all healthy, brain-boosting ingredients you can easily store in your freezer or refrigerator, you don’t even need to use fresh ingredients!
The Brain-Freezer Blueberry Smoothie is delicious, and will satisfy your family’s hunger and ensure that everyone’s brain is sharp and focused for school, work, or even watching a movie!
We’re definitely gonna have some before we go see Inside Out!
Here’s the recipe…
Blueberry Brain Freezer Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen Blueberries
- 1 Frozen Banana
- 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
- 2 Tablespoon Collagen Protein
- 10 ounces Coconut milk
- 6 Ice Cubes
- Stevia to taste
- Place all ingredients in a Vitamix or high-speed blender
- Blend on high until your desired consistency is reached
- And enjoy!
Double the recipe as needed.
Warning: Resist the urge to sip this drink too fast or you may get “brain freeze”!
Try this recipe out and let us know what you think. It will be cool to hear how you find yourself thinking better because:
Blueberries improve memory and comprehension
Bananas release energy slowly, and this helps the brain to stay alert
Chia Seeds can reduce some problems associated with memory loss
Coconut “is low in natural sugars, and high in fiber, manganese, and nature’s richest source of medium-chain triglycerides. Medium-chain triglycerides are converted into a stable source of fuel for your brain during periods of low blood sugar, and can even help with memory loss” says Dr Amen in this Brain Smoothie Recipe he shared on Prevention
But, even more importantly, go watch “Inside Out” with your children and MAKE GREAT MEMORIES you will all REMEMBER FOR LIFE!
