Turn your brain off to de-stress and do MORE!
You were blessed with a child. And that blessing may have also come with a food allergy and food sensitivities!
Thankfully, you were also given a super-powered Mommy brain ready to read any food label, dissect any restaurant menu and pack safe snacks in seconds to avoid food sensitivities and allergens.
You were also given that super-powered mommy brain with super-speed ready to react to any breathing problem, breakout, boo-boo, or WORSE that comes from an allergic reaction.
So, why am I asking you to turn off your God given super powered allergy fighting mommy brain off???!!!
Because those late night cupcake-baking, lunch-making, snack-packing mommy brains need a break.
Yes, I agree with the saying, “God only gives you what you can handle”. But honestly, I’m human and I get tired of being an allergy mom and I sometimes doubt this saying.
I’m sure you too appreciate your super mom powers but get a little or let’s face it… A LOT worn out from fighting food allergies too.
So I would love to share with you one of my secrets I use when I fall into the overwhelmed stress trap and don’t feel like I can even stop for air… I turn off my brain!
Because even though having a child with a gluten sensitivity and food allergies never allows you to be “off guard”, there is time to stop and RESET.
Think of a 60 second brain reset as a requirement for you to help boost your super powers and help you handle any challenges that God and life has given you.
The great thing about stopping to take a 60 second reset is that sometimes, without even knowing it, it becomes the most restful 60 seconds that naturally turn into 2, 3, or more minutes of reset time where you truly get into a restful and relaxing state.
So instead of getting sucked into checking facebook for just one minute that becomes 2, 3, 20 and 30 minutes or more, try something NEW instead…
Read a book without “reading” it
One of my favorite ways to reset is to pick up a book and turn off my brain by not “reading” it. I say that, because Miracles Now is that book for me. All you have to do is randomly open the book and receive your miracle for the day.
I just love this kind of book, because you never have to feel bad about not having the time to read it every time you see it on your nightstand. Instead, it makes you smile and draws you to your nightstand earlier to relax and read just ONE thing before crashing to sleep.
I had the opportunity to meet Gabrielle Bernstein the author of this book and wrote about it in this article. Gabby is a truly amazing woman and has had such an incredible impact on my mindfulness practice.
Recently, I picked this miracle I wanted to share it with you, because it’s perfect for us food allergy fighting mommas.

You’ve got the empathy down, now focus on the stress
Moms of kids with Food Allergies and food sensitivities have got the empathy part down. It’s the stress of just managing the day to day food routine that constantly have you to checking food labels, make special requests in restaurants, and home cooking for gluten-free, diary-free, nut-free, soy-free, everything-free and self-care goes out the window.
Even the KFA (Kids with Food Allergies) recognizes that the diagnosis of food allergy is a major adjustment that can have an adverse impact on the whole family’s quality of life. Families need to learn how to safely navigate schools, restaurants, vacations, birthday parties and holidays, and how to be prepared to treat anaphylaxis, an allergic reaction that can be severe and life-threatening.
Turning your brain off is a self-care and a mindfulness practice that you should do at least once a day.
According to Dr. Mercola practicing mindfulness is one way to help stay on top of stress, he says that ‘practicing mindfulness means that you’re actively paying attention to the moment you’re in right now. Rather than letting your mind wander, when you’re mindful you’re living in the moment and letting distracting or negative thoughts pass through your mind without getting caught up in their emotional implications. Mindfulness can help you reduce stress for increased well-being as well as achieve undistracted focus’.
