Your Why – Finding your calling
There are hundreds, even thousands of healthy living blogs out there. So why did we decide to start yet another of many health blogs? Well, it started with our WHY. Friends kept recommending we read the book, “The WHY Cafe” by John P. Strelecky which dealt with finding your calling and setting forth to incorporate it into your life. We read the book and it changed our lives, as it had changed that of many of our friends. This is why we also want to recommend it to everyone out there.
From time to time, we all might need to reflect on our lives and figure out “WHY” we do things, why were we put on this earth? What is our purpose in this life? Sure, we all live and do what we need to do to make a living and survive and we are happy with that, while at times we are not so happy, but we need to be okay with that reality. Why not take the time to read this book and see if it brings you some clarity in your life?
In reading the WHY Cafe, Michael and I realized that our why was in line with our family mission statement that we created for ourselves at our marriage preparation class (Engaged Encounter through the Catholic Church). We set out to create a simple mission that encapsulated our overall belief system. We are happy to say that after 14 years of marriage, our mission is as true today as it was in the beginning!
“To live a quality rich, God-centered family life”
We attempt to live this mission out everyday but recognize that we do fall short of this statement at times and reading the “WHY Cafe” made us realize that we were going through the motions of trying to live out our family mission statement, but we were not fully living it out to our best potential.
Connecting our passion for health and wellness with our WHY
We are eternally grateful for the improvement in our lives as a result of our focus on our health. This is a continual journey that we have embarked upon and through this continual learning state, we aim to model for our children. With this in mind, we believe that our WHY, is to share the health and wellness-related knowledge we are learning with other individuals to encourage a health-revolution in their own lives. We recognize that we all have lives to live and not everything can be so black and white. There are parties to go to, food to eat and lazy days ahead for everyone! With that said, we aim to share the baby steps that we took and continue to take with hopes that we have even a minor impact in the lives of some.
We are not a healthy living blog with bloggers that have nutritional or fitness credentials after our names. Though, we never know what the future may hold. But, we are just a regular mom and dad that want to raise a healthy family through food, fitness, faith and fun. We are the average family that is going to continue to enjoy life through parties, restaurants, friendships, etc. We are not quitting our mainstream life to fall of the grid, live on a farm, cook all of our food, exercise everyday, etc…. We are making healthy living fit into our lives!
We want to share how everyone can take baby steps to improve their health while still enjoying the fun things life has to offer. Being healthy doesn’t have to mean giving things up. It’s trading things out. It’s exercising when you can, even if it is in small increments. It’s eating delicious food which is real food. It is not counting calories and exercising everyday. It is not living to eat…rather it is eating to live! Healthy living includes going out to restaurants and engaging with servers and Chefs to create the meal that fits for you. We believe in the 80/20 rule!
Healthy living requires a unique balancing act that fits the unique YOU!
